Electric shock. Straight razors. Chainsaws. The folks at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration really do an outstanding job of preying upon your deepest fears in this promotional video for National Teen Driver Safety Week. For parents, this is high-octane Nightmare Fuel:
According to the NHTSA, in the U.S. motor vehicle crashes (yes, we use the word “crashes” instead of “accidents”, and here’s why) are the leading cause of death for kids aged 14 to 18. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that in 2011, some 2,650 teens were killed in auto crashes; 292,000 received emergency treatment for injuries suffered in car crashes. Those numbers are too high. National Teen Driver Safety Week kicks off on Monday, October 18th. We’ll be dedicating the week to providing you and your teen drivers with helpful information and strategies to help you avoid becoming a tragic part of those statistics. You can follow us on Facebook and Twitter for the latest updates.
