If you are under the age of 18 and have already received your Oklahoma Learners Permit, there are a few steps you will need to complete to get your Oklahoma Drivers License. We’ve put together this list to help you along the way. If you would like to print or save a copy of this list, there is a link to a PDF version at the bottom of this page.
STEP 1: Make Sure Your Parents or Guardian Is Registered
- Download the Oklahoma Parent-Taught Affidavit
- Mail the completed form to the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety along with a self-addressed stamped envelope to:

- The Parent-Taught Driver Education Packet from the Oklahoma DPS will arrive within 2-3 weeks notifying you hat your Parent/Guardian has been approved once you receive your packet
- Fill out the I DRIVE SAFELY Oklahoma Parent-Taught Drivers Education Application
- Send us the Affidavit of Approval along with the I DRIVE SAFELY Oklahoma Parent-Taught Driver’s Education Application via fax, email, or US Postal Service

- A verification email will be sent to you confirming approval
STEP 2: Start Your Oklahoma Teen I Drive Safely Course Now
Once you are enrolled in the course, you may obtain your learner’s permit from the DPS. Bring the following documents to the DPS office to take your written permit exam:
- 2 forms of identification
- Social Security card
- School letter/proof of enrollment
- Certificate of Enrollment for your Parent-Taught Driver’s Ed course
STEP 3: Successfully Pass Your Oklahoma Permit Exam and Vision Test, and Receive Your Drivers Permit
Step 4: Now Continue Your Parent-Taught Drivers Ed Course and Start Your Instruction Behind the Wheel
- Fill out training logs provided in the DPS Parent-Taught Education Packet as you complete your behind-the-wheel training. The logs document the amount of time the student spends in training. NOTE: you must complete 55 hours of documented behind-the-wheel training
STEP 5: Complete Your I Drive Safely Course
- Once you successfully complete the course, you will automatically receive your Certificate of Completion
STEP 6: Report to the DPS for Your Driver Exam
Here’s what you’ll need to bring:
- Learner’s permit
- I DRIVE SAFELY Certificate of Completion
- Behind-the-wheel instruction logs
- 2 forms of identification
- Social Security card
- School letter/proof of enrollment
