Big Change for Florida Teen Drivers
Starting July 1, 2025, teens under 18 in Florida must take the new DETS course to apply for a permit. The old TLSAE course won’t count anymore.
If you have already started TLSAE, finish it by July 31 to avoid having to start over with the DETS course.
About the DETS Final Exam
This course ends with a required state final exam:
- 50 multiple-choice questions from a 500-question pool
- Score 80% or higher to pass
- Fail the test? You must retake (and repurchase) the entire course
We guide you through each section, so nothing catches you off guard.
What About the Florida Knowledge Exam?
While DETS is new, the Florida Knowledge Exam (FL KE) hasn’t changed yet. Based on current state updates:
- Teens will still need to complete the FL KE
- It’s still unclear whether adults will need to
We’ll post updates here as soon as the state confirms final rules.
