  • How it Works

  • How to Take an Online Defensive Driving Course in Oklahoma

While the state of Oklahoma will reward safe drivers with reduced points for going violation-free for 1-3 years, chances are you need to get those points erased much faster than that. That’s why the state also accepts Defensive Driving courses as a means of point reduction. If you’re saddled with a traffic ticket, or you’ve accumulated a large amount of points on your record, you can remove 2 of those points by refreshing your safe driving skills.

To give you a head start on the process, we’ve created a list of the steps you need to take in order to earn that 2-point reduction. By following this guide, you’ll be fully prepared to meet your traffic ticket head on, and clear your driving record for good.

How to Reduce 2 Points From Your Driving Record

    1. Contact your court and request permission to attend a defensive driving course.

Even if you haven’t recently received a traffic violation and you’re just looking to remove an accumulation of points, you will still need to contact your local court and let them know your intentions. Our course is approved by individual courts throughout the state.

    2. Enroll in and complete your I Drive Safely Oklahoma defensive driving course.

You may only complete this course once every 2 years to remove points from your license.

    3. Submit your completion certificate to your court.

I Drive Safely will send you a certificate of completion, which you are then responsible for delivering to your court. The court may have given you a deadline by which to complete and submit your course; if you’re doing so voluntarily, you will likely have greater leeway.

    4. Check your driving record.

Your court will submit your completion to the DPS, and it will take them a few weeks to process your point reduction. You should then check your Oklahoma driving record to ensure that you have received a 2-point credit for completing your course.

Regardless of court deadlines, you MUST complete the course within 180 days of registration. Any student who has not successfully completed the course within 180 days will be terminated without notice and will not be eligible for a refund.
