  • How it Works

  • How to Take a Traffic School Course in Wisconsin

The state of Wisconsin offers drivers the opportunity to dismiss many traffic violations by taking our online traffic school. Here’s the steps you’ll need to take:

How to Earn a 3-Point Credit or Renew and Raise Your Insurance Discount

    1. Contact your court and ask for permission to dismiss your ticket through traffic school.
To dismiss any violation other than a Failure to Yield conviction (for which you would receive a DMV notice), you must obtain permission from your individual court. I Drive Safely is currently authorized for ticket amendment for the Village of Greendale, the City of Brookfield Municipal Court and the Muskego Municipal Court; if that’s not your court, you’ll need to get that authorized. You may usually contact them either in person at a court date, or by phone (contact information is typically found on your citation).Ask your court if you can dismiss your ticket, or prevent the points associated with your violation from appearing on your driving record.
    2. Enroll in and complete the I Drive Safely Wisconsin Traffic School course.
Once you have received your court’s permission, you can enroll in our course and work through it at your own pace. Your court may issue you a deadline; if so, be sure to complete your lessons well within your time limit so that you can submit your certificate of completion on time.
    3. Submit your certificate of completion to your court.
I Drive Safely will send you a completion certificate once you finish your course, which you may then mail, fax or bring in to your court; your court will give you instructions on how you’re to submit your certificate. Note: I Drive Safely will submit the certificate electronically every Monday to the Village of Greendale, the City of Brookfield Municipal Court and the Muskego Municipal Court. All others must submit to their court.
    4. Check your driving record to make sure you’ve received credit.
If they’ve received your certificate of completion, the court will not report your violation to the DMV. It shouldn’t appear on your driving record, but you’ll want to double-check with the DMV to make sure.

    General Info

    1. Why should I take a Wisconsin online traffic school course?

Taking our course may help you in a couple of ways. First, you may be able to reduce your insurance rates. You’ll want to check with your insurance company to see if they give discounts to customers who enroll in a Wisconsin defensive driving course. Second, you may be able to complete your court-ordered traffic school requirement with our course. You’ll need to contact your court and ask whether they would be willing to approve our course for point reduction.

    1. Is your online traffic school licensed by the state of Wisconsin?

We are currently approved for ticket amendment by the City of Brookfield Municipal Court, the Village of Greendale and the Muskego Municipal Court. For all other Wisconsin traffic courts, you’ll need to contact them directly and request permission to fulfill your requirement with our online course before you enroll. If you’ve been convicted of a Failure To Yield violation, our Failure To Yield course is fully approved by the state of Wisconsin. In addition, you still may be able to take one of our courses for an insurance discount. Your insurance provider will be able to tell you whether or not you qualify.

    1. I'm not sure if I'm eligible to take Wisconsin traffic school. How do I find out?

The state of Wisconsin does not automatically authorize drivers to take an online traffic school course; permission is granted by judges on a case-by-case basis, so you’ll need to contact your court.

    1. Does online traffic school help my insurance rate in Wisconsin?

It can! You’ll need to check with your insurance provider to make sure they offer reduced rates to drivers who complete a Wisconsin defensive driving course.

    1. Where do I send my traffic school certificate in Wisconsin?

If your insurance provider authorizes you to take our online Wisconsin defensive driving course for a discount, or if your court allows you to take it to dismiss a ticket, you’ll need to provide them with a copy of your certificate of completion. When you finish the final exam of your Wisconsin traffic school, we will get your certificate of completion to you in your inbox that same day.

Note: I Drive Safely will report the course completion directly to the City of Brookfield Municipal Court, the Village of Greendale and the Muskego Municipal Court.
