  • New Hampshire Drivers Ed Requirements

Getting your New Hampshire drivers license can be an exciting time in your life. And although you may want to rush straight through, there is a simple process in place that you must follow before you can earn your privilege to drive. If you are under 18, your first step will be completing New Hampshire driver education.

An approved drivers ed program in New Hampshire consists of the following:

    • 30 hours of classroom instruction with a certified driving instructor
    • 6 hours of driving observation with a certified driving instructor
    • 10 hours of behind-the-wheel practice with a certified driving instructor

However, your driver training doesn’t end there. In addition to the above requirements, you will need to do the following:

    • Log 40 hours of driving practice with supervision by a parent or guardian
    • 10 of these hours must take place at night
    • Document these hours on a Driver’s Out-Of-Class log sheet

There is no New Hampshire learners permit. Instead, budding drivers fulfill their requirements and go straight to a drivers license, without a New Hampshire drivers permit.

How you complete your driver training requirements is entirely up to you.

At the end of your New Hampshire drivers ed online course, there will be a final exam that consists of 50 questions. You are required to score 80% to pass, but the good news is you get unlimited attempts! That means you’re practically guaranteed to pass and get that certificate of completion. We mail this out to you as soon as we process your course completion, so you can move forward with your driver training.

    On to the Drivers License!

After you’ve completed all of these steps, you are free to apply for your New Hampshire driver’s license! To do this, you must be at least 16 years old. You will then need to visit a DMV office and provide the following:

    • Application for driver license form
    • Two documents that prove your identity
    • Your original driver education completion certificate
    • A parent or guardian authorization certificate, signed by your parent or guardian
    • Your completed Driver's Out-Of-Class log sheet, signed by your parent or guardian

At the DMV, you will need to pass three tests: a vision test, a knowledge test, and a road test. Once you have successfully completed these exams, you will need to pay a license fee and have your picture taken. You will then be issued a temporary license before you receive your permanent license in the mail.

As you can see, drivers ed in New Hampshire is painless, especially when you take a course with I Drive Safely. What you learn from drivers ed is extremely valuable, and it’s information that will be useful to you throughout your entire driving career. That’s why it’s essential to take your drivers ed course requirements seriously.
