California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Forms
Before heading to the DMV, it’s a good idea to fill out any and all paperwork well in advance. If you’ve already made an appointment, it can save time and expedite the DMV process significantly. The number of California DMV forms and applications you’re required to fill out can vary depending on your purpose of visit, but here are some of the more common forms you’ll encounter at the DMV.The Drivers License or ID Card Application
Also known as the DL 44 form, the application for a California drivers license or identification card is required when you apply for, renew, or replace your drivers license or ID card. If you’re applying for a California learners permit, you’ll have to fill out this form and present it at the DMV, along with your certificate of completion (Form OL 237). Upon processing you will be allowed to take the written exam required to earn a permit. Don’t forget that you’ll need one or more of the following forms of identification:- U.S. birth certificate
- U.S. passport
- Official U.S. Armed Forces Identification card
- Naturalization certificate
- Permanent Resident card
- Adoption documents that contain your full legal name after adoption.
- A marriage certificate
- A Social Security card
