Saving Money On Your Washington Auto Insurance

Auto insurance is a fact of life in the state of Washington – all licensed drivers in the state must be required to hold some kind of liability coverage. It may inflate your monthly bills quite a bit, but did you know there are ways to save a considerable amount of cash on your premiums? No matter what your situation may be, there’s a way to lower your insurance premiums.

Shop Around

While most insurance providers may offer similar, if not exactly the same, kinds of coverage, some of them may have wildly varying price tags. Research your local auto insurance providers and get an idea of what they’ll cost you; you’ll find that a couple of them may be considerably cheaper than the competition, with the exact same type of coverage.

Choose the Right Car

Some car makes and models cost more to insure than others for a variety of reasons, including safety, tendency for damage, etc. Choose your car carefully if you want to minimize costs for your auto insurance. If you’re not sure about costs, you can always ask any insurance agent or broker for an estimate on how much it will cost to cover your desired vehicle.

Ask About Discounts

Sometimes, the easiest way to save money on your car insurance is to simply ask. Most insurance providers have an exhaustive list of discounts for everything and anything. Among the discounts offered are:

  • Good student discounts for getting good grades in school
  • Senior discounts for those 55 and older
  • Good driving discounts for those without a ticket or violation
  • Discounts for having home and auto insurance with the same provider

Drivers may also be able to receive a nice discount on their insurance premiums if they complete an insurance discount driver safety course and present their completion certificate to the provider.

To Buy or Not to Buy Collision and Comprehensive Coverage

One easy way to shave off some money on your monthly insurance premiums is to opt out of any collision and/or comprehensive coverage, but that’s a decision that should not be taken lightly. Collision and comprehensive coverage gives you the ability to cover repairs on your vehicle that you otherwise may not be able to afford – it’s a convenient way to get peace of mind, especially if you’re lacking in money. If you have a newer car that may take a chunk of change to fix in the case of an accident, this might be a valuable expenditure that can save you money in the long run.
