Home > DMV > New York DMV > New York DMV

Like it or not, at some point you’re going to have to make a trip to your local DMV office. There are a lot of NY DMV locations, but finding one close to you is actually pretty simple. Better yet – thanks to the power of the Internet, you might be able to make a reservation and avoid waiting in line. And you may not even need to go at all!

Find Your Local NY DMV Office

Whether you live in upstate New York, or uptown in Manhattan, there’s probably a DMV office near you. You can find all NYS DMV locations by using the New York DMV office location webpage. This page gives you a couple of ways to search. You can enter your address or ZIP code, or you can use the scrollable map. Along with the address, the page also gives you that DMV branch’s operating hours and the services it offers. Remember that not all NYS DMV branches offer every service; if the closest location to you does not offer what you need, you’ll need to find a branch that does. Searching by ZIP code will give you a list of all nearby offices along with the distance from your home.

Making an NY DMV Reservation

Once you know where to go, you can see if you can save yourself some time when you get there. You can go to the NY DMV Reservations webpage – or you can click the Make A Reservation button on the DMV office location page. You’ll find that button right above the map of New York DMV locations.

Save Yourself a Trip – NY DMV Online Services

The New York DMV also lets you do a number of common tasks online. You’ll see an Online Serives pulldown menu on the Offices page; it’s labelled “Choose Task”. From changing your address to paying (or even pleading to) a Traffic Violation Bureau ticket, you’ll have the chance to do what you need to right from home. It’s worth checking out before you actually go to an office – after all, the best trip to the DMV is the one you don’t have to take!
