Setting an Appointment with the Kentucky DMV

The DMV is notorious for long wait times and crowded offices. Like it or not, everyone in Kentucky uses the DMV for driving procedures, so, understandably, branches can be overwhelming during peak traffic times. The last thing you want is to attempt a quick stop at the DMV, only to have the trip eat up your entire day. Fortunately, you don’t necessarily have to get stuck in a rush if you are smart and plan ahead for your trip.

Road Test Appointments in Kentucky

Kentucky offers its residents the opportunity to book an appointment at the DMV for road tests, both for car and motorcycle licenses. This makes it easy for prospective drivers to take their tests as quickly as possible and ensures that there will always be a qualified driving instructor available to give the test and score you. To book a road test appointment, call your local Kentucky DMV branch. Unfortunately, the Kentucky DMV does not offer appointments for any other service.

The Best Times to go to the DMV

DMV offices may seem perpetually busy, but don’t be fooled: there are indeed lulls in most branches’ operating hours. If you plan ahead, you should be able to visit the DMV when its traffic is the lowest and shave a lot of time off your visit there. The DMV is busiest:

  • On Mondays and Fridays
  • Immediately before or after a holiday
  • During lunch hours, around noon

If you want to head to a DMV office, it’s best to avoid the above dates. The best periods to visit the DMV are typically:

  • In the middle of the week, Tuesday to Thursday
  • At the time of opening
  • In the middle of the month

Going to the DMV during these times would be the best bet for a speedy, painless experience.

Online Services at the Kentucky DMV

Depending on what you need, you may not even need to go to a DMV office; a good portion of their services are now available at the Kentucky DMV online services page. Most renewals and annually recurring processes can be done from home, so long as the first time takes place in the office and the DMV has your information on record.

You can renew your license, your registration, and pay other fees like traffic tickets all from your computer. You can also register changes to personal information the DMV has on record, such as your name and address. Important records, like your driving record or copies of tickets and duplicate licenses can be ordered as well. Thanks to the Internet, waiting is not a requirement for most DMV-related processes.
