Drivers in select Northern California metro areas can receive a free, sober ride home this Fourth of July courtesy of a local law firm.
GJEL Accident Attorneys is running an Independence Day Drink and Alive Free Cab Ride Program, which will provide free cab rides home for individuals located in the Bay Area, the Tri-Valley Area, and Sacramento.
Independence Day is one of America’s deadliest holidays of the year due to drunk driving crashes, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Over the Fourth of July holiday in 2016, from July 2 to July 6, 188 people were killed in crashes involving at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of .08 or higher. Nearly half of those who died were in a vehicle crash involving at least one driver or motorcycle operator with a BAC of .15 or higher—almost twice the legal limit.
“The Car Accident Attorneys at GJEL is committed to keeping the roads in California safe,” the firm stated on its website. “One of the most dangerous times to be on the roads is during the holidays when people are out drinking. We want to do our small part by helping people make the right decision to NOT drink and drive.”
