Here at I DRIVE SAFELY we get a lot of questions about the requirements for a provisional license in the state of Texas so we\u2019ve put together this helpful list of steps you will need to take. If you would like to save or print a copy of this list, there is a link to a PDF version at the bottom.<\/p>\n<h2>STEP 1.\u00a0Make Sure Your Parent or Guardian Is Registered for the Parent-Taught Driver Education Program<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Download the <a title=\"Request for a Parent-Taught Education Package\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tdlr.texas.gov\/driver\/forms\/DL92.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DL-92 Request Form<br \/>\n <\/a><\/li>\n<li>Mail the completed form to the Texas Department of Public Safety with a $20 check or money to:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"center\"><strong>Texas DPS \u2013 License Issuance Bureau<br \/>\n P.O. Box 149246<br \/>\n Austin, Texas 78714-9246<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Parent-Taught Driver Education Packet from the Texas DPS will arrive within 2-3 weeks notifying you that your Parent\/Guardian has been approved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>STEP 2. Begin Your I Drive Safely\u00a0<a title=\"Texas Drivers Ed\" href=\"https:\/\/www.idrivesafely.com\/drivers-ed\/texas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Texas Drivers Education Course<\/a><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Once you complete <em>the first 6 hours<\/em> of the course, you will receive a 6-hour Permit Qualification Certificate (DE-964E) from I DRIVE SAFELY via postal mail. At this point you should <strong>wait<\/strong> to continue with the course until you complete Step 3 below<\/li>\n<li><em>Helpful Tip: Like <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/idrivesafely\/\"><em>I DRIVE SAFELY on Facebook<\/em><\/a><em>\u00a0to save 20% on the course!<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>STEP 3.\u00a0Go to Your Local DPS Office to Take Your Texas Permit Exam and Vision Test, and Receive Your Learner&#8217;s Permit!<\/h2>\n<p>Bring the following documents with you to your written permit exam:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6-hour Permit Qualification Certificate (DE-964E)<\/li>\n<li>Proof of identity, such as a birth certificate<\/li>\n<li>Social Security Card<\/li>\n<li>Completed forms from the Parent-Taught Driver Education Packet: Application for TX driver\u2019s license (DL-14A), Parental Driver Education Affidavit (DL-90A), Verification of Enrollment and Attendance (VOE) form, PTDE Program Receipt\u00a0and Classroom Instruction Record (DL-91A) for PTDE<\/li>\n<li>Proof of vehicle registration and insurance<\/li>\n<li>$16 permit fee<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You have 3 opportunities and\/or 90 days to successfully pass these tests<\/p>\n<h2>STEP 4.\u00a0Continue Your Parent-Taught Drivers Ed Course and Start Your Instruction Behind-The-Wheel.<\/h2>\n<p>You must continue with your I DRIVE SAFELY course for your permit to remain valid.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fill out training logs provided in the DPS Parent-Taught Education Packet as you complete your behind-the-wheel training.<\/li>\n<li>The logs document the amount of time the student spends in training. NOTE: you must complete 20 Hours of documented behind-the-wheel training; 10 of those hours must be at night<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>STEP 5. Complete Your I Drive Safely Course<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Once you successfully complete the course, you will automatically receive your Certificate of Completion via the shipping option you chose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>STEP 6.
