Know Your Laws: New California Cell Phone Law Effective Today!Beginning July 1st, 2008, new California laws that could effect the way you drive go into effect. Starting today, California drivers need to follow these restrictions on cell phone usage: Hands-free phones: A state law now prohibits drivers from using a cell phone or other mobile device while driving unless they are using a hands-free speaking and listening system. No cell phones for minors: Drivers who are under the age of 18 are not allowed to use a wireless telephone or any other mobile service device while operating a vehicle - even if the device is hands-free. There has been some confusion as to the specifics of the new 2008 laws, but it is important that you know them. Here are the other traffic laws that are new in 2008:
