"Lost" behind the Wheel

The cast of Lost is starting to get a reputation for their less-than-perfect island driving. Over the last couple years, there have been a number of unsettling Hawaii traffic incidents involving Lost cast members. Is there something in the salty-sweet ocean air?

2005: Michelle Rodriguez and Cynthia Watros. Michelle Rodriguez had a string of 2005 citations for speeding before being pulled over for driving under the influence on December 1, 2005. On the same night, Cynthia Watros was pulled over separately -also for driving under the influence! Though Rodriguez plead not-guilty and Watros plead guilty, they both faced legal consequences. Both of their characters were soon after removed from the show, but the producers say their exit had been planned before the season even began.

2006: Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje. A cop arrested Akinnouye-Agbaje in Honolulu on September 2, 2006 for operating a motor vehicle without a license and disobeying a police officer. He was cleared of all charges after proving that he had a valid license. Akinnouye-Agbaje's character was soon killed by a smoke monster.

2007: Daniel Dae Kim. Dae Kim also happens to be the only one that still has a part on the show. His blood alcohol content after being pulled over for a DUI came up as 0.168-over twice the legal limit. He made a public apology a day later

As for the rest of the Lost crew, let's hope they're planning their transportation a little better and being more responsible with those Mai Tais.

Factoid
Avoid Hydroplaning:
Hydroplaning is when your front tires lose contact with the road and travel on a film of water. To avoid this, keep your tires inflated properly, drive at a lower speed, and avoid puddles. If you hydroplane, ease your foot off the gas and pump the brake gently until you've regained control. Brake normally if you have anti-lock brakes.
Maintenance Tip
  Listen to your car:
If car is making any of these noises it is trying to tell you something. Make sure you listen and correct the problem before it gets worse:

GROANING: Something's dry, probably a suspension component. If it's metal, it's going to break really soon. If it's rubber, try some silicone lube.

SIZZLING: Like the sound of bacon frying, this is usually only audible with the engine off. Oil may be leaking onto the exhaust manifold or a minor coolant seepage may be occurring.

WHIRRING: The sound made by happy mechanicals. It's one of the few noises you probably shouldn't worry about.
